A Cure for Diabetes
Diabetes is a very common condition. It is characterized by abnormally high levels of glucose in the blood which can damage organs and blood vessels. If left untreated, it can also lead to death.
Unfortunately, there is presently no cure for diabetes. However, it is possible for people diagnosed with the disease to manage it properly so it won’t affect their quality of life. However, failure to do so can cause a range of problems like eye disease, heart disease, and strokes.
Whatever type of diabetes you have, it’s very important that you monitor your blood sugar levels. This should be done multiple times per day. At the very least, you will need to do it before going to bed and before you eat anything.
There are three different types of diabetes namely, type-1, type-2, and gestational. A treatment or cure for diabetes depends on the specific type you have. Type-1 diabetes typically need an insulin injection twice a day to deal with the disease. People with gestational or type-2 diabetes may need these injections, but some people don’t.
Oral medications can also be used as a cure for diabetes. They are commonly used for people with gestational or type-2 diabetes as opposed to those with type-1. There are a range of medications, and they can work in different ways.
Some of these oral medications enhance the body’s ability to use insulin that’s already being produced. Others increase the amount of insulin in the body. Still, other oral medications used as a cure for diabetes can block the liver’s ability to make sugar or decrease the digestion of sugar.
There is also a new treatment method that’s being touted as a cure for diabetes. The surgery is known as pancreatic islet transplantation. The main goal of surgery is to implant insulin-producing beta cells into people with type-1 diabetes. This helps negate their need for insulin injections.
One of the most important aspects of treating diabetes is eating an appropriate diet. Obviously, you will need to control your sugar intake so that levels don’t get too high. It is also best that you limit the amount of carbohydrates that you consume.
Proper hydration is also important when dealing with diabetes. When sugar builds up in the blood, you will start urinating more often. The kidneys will lose water in the process and you may experience dehydration if you aren’t drinking enough water.
One of the most important lifestyle changes as a cure for diabetes is exercise. People who are overweight type-2 diabetes typically develop the condition because of their weight. The condition usually resolves itself once the weight has been lost. This can either be achieved through a proper diet and exercise, or through weight loss surgery.
Medical science and progress towards a cure for Diabetes
Although there is no cure for diabetes, the condition can be managed so it doesn’t affect your quality of life. You may need daily insulin injections, especially if you’re a type-1 diabetic. However, those with type-2 or gestational diabetes can often benefit from oral medications that combat the disease in various ways on diabetes.
